Pen yr Ole Wen from the Ogwen Valley.

On the 18th January 2016, the kit was packed and the van was set for a small trip into Snowdonia, Weather was looking poor, 40 mph winds, afternoon downpours and lots of overnight wind slab, due to this we planned to head up the route of Pen Yr Ole, the classic scramble path from Ogwen Cottage (Grid ref. SH649603). The route itself is a relatively demanding short walk which shows wonderful views of the Glyders, Carneddau and an overview view of the valleys sharp and structure, from here you can also see the Snowdon massif in clear weather.

Here is a collection of images from the wintery day on the hills. Enjoy

Do your crampons fit?

Heading out into the unknown is not what you what to do so we all plan routes to fix the problem, the same thing needs to happen with equipment.

Winter mountaineering is safe if you plan, judge and fit the problems ahead.

A lot of people but kit and take the labels off and head out to walk, please take a moment to read the information and try the kit out, Crampons are easily mistaken and some people just put them into their bags, take some time fixing them on and off. This saves time and that time maybe needed to help someone else.

Don’t buy if your not going to try!

Enjoy winter, enjoy outdoors.
